The Blue Star Flag first appeared in 1917, when an army captain had two sons serving on the front lines who designed it as a tribute and dedication to their service. The flag quickly became an unoffical symbol of a child in the service. Today, a family who has a loved one serving in the military display a blue star flag on the inside of their front window of their home to show the family's pride of their loved one who is serving and to remind others that preserving America's freedom demands much.
I remember my Grandma talking about her blue star flag that hung in her window. It had 4 blue stars. One day a gold star appeared in her window and only three blue stars remained. Yes, one son was killed. A gold star replaced the blue star.
Mothers then and today send their sons and daughters off with a brave and encouraging smile on their face and a heart full of hidden tears. Many times a day you turn your fears over to God for your child and his family. God is in control of our lives and we turn over our fears daily knowing that our God is NOT dead and He is in control. Thank you Lord for the peace that passeth all understanding.
